: Ampera Rear Fascia

A big Izuzu truck rear ended my 2012 Volt last Sunday while I was stopped in a line of cars at a red light. The rear fascia needs to be replaced. Can I order the Ampera rear fascia and have it installed instead of the Volt fascia?

Good question. The Ampera is made here so they have the parts here. Try your local parts counter and/or see if your body shop can get them.

The Ampera fascia may require a change in the rear lights if I am looking at the photo correctly.

Compared to Volt:

It looks like the chrome trim that cross the rear on the Ampera, causes a dip that's not on the Volt. Maybe the chrome is applied on top of the bumper piece. You would also have to alter the hatch trim pieces to match up.

gnelson, sorry to hear of your misfortune. I do like the look of the Ampera rear facia better, that would be really cool if you can make this conversion work. Turning lemons to lemonade :)

MTN Ranger, did you get your window fixed? I hope all is well with your Volt now and the dealer treated your car with care.

MTN Ranger:

Thanks for the better photos. I can clearly see the chrome strip in your photo. I thought it looked like a light in the photo I posted. I would prefer to leave off the chrome.

That would be cool! I agree it is a great look...
Afraid it will be $$$ even in your case. Keep us posted though please!

I expect to pay more. I think the rocker panels should also be painted red to match the car since the Ampera Fascia is all one color on the sides. Volt 692 had his painted. The body shop removed them prior to painting.

The body shop at the Chevrolet dealership claims they can't order the Ampera fascia. I really can't understand why.

Brake light wiring would be different as well since they have another brake light down there. Actually I bet they'd just have leave the brake light off since there are certainly different regulations.

License plate holder would look a little odd since you'd have to figure out how to bolt the USA version on.

Bummer you can't get it but I suspect there are a lot of subtle things different.

Do you have to limit yourself to working with a dealer's body shop? Some of the worst body shop work I have ever seen came from a dealer's body shop.

Maybe you can ask other body shops if they are willing to go the extra mile to get the parts, or work with the parts you source by looking at all your options. Maybe a dealer can order them in Europe, but have them drop shipped to you in the US instead of sending them to Europe.

It may be in the "too hard basket," but I am sure you can pull it off if you really want to try.

Are you sure? I thought that was the red rear fog light required in much of the EU.

Are you sure? I thought that was the red rear fog light required in much of the EU.I think you are right and my memory is failing. I think people were suggesting it could be used for a rear brake light in (L)ow when regen happened. I did not have any luck confirming from some quick web searches. I've been in some thick fog the past few days so I could appreciate more lighting although I'm not sure why it would be more than the rear 'parking' lights.

One thread here I found in my search: http://gm-volt.com/forum/showthread.php?8176-Ampera-sighting

part numbers would be a great start. Would love to get the part numbers for all the rear and front end volt and Ampera parts. Once you have the part numbers you should be able to order.

There was an Ampera owner that posted on here. If you could get a favor for them to ask for the part numbers from a local dealer, you would have the info you need.

May be able to just call over to one of the part counters at a dealer over there if you can speak their language. Does the UK already have the Ampera?

That may work if he is willing... I know you cna order Ampera parts here as if you type into google 22779833 it will bring up a GM parts website and a price to order. This part number and also 22779834 are the front left and right Ampera headlights that have the white reflector instead of the yellow. Hint, these are currently for sale on ebay

hello guys

I've been to my dealer today to double check my ampera VIN that had been questioned. and I can confirm the number is
1GOR86E45CU1O5903. I've tried to get the parts numbers but due to the stop delivery in europe we are not able to get those as there should be no amperas on the road yet. Mine is still at the dealer and they are saying they will wait to fit the enhancement kit before any delivery.

Any guidance from you or anyone else would be appreciated!

my service manager and parts guy are researching this... worst case scenario is to buy them from the dealership in germany and have them shipped back here.... i have done that many times on gray market porsches that had been damaged. we do this with all the cool jdm honda parts.... but it's pricey. it would be a shame to do this like that since the parts are in detroit....
