Haha, he says he's optimistic of the future and doesn't think GM will need a bailout. I guess GM's plummeting profits are just psychological and the volt will fix everything.

Well, it does make GM more like to receive a bailout, which is more than can be said about the "psychological benefits" of offshore drilling for the American people that Mccain's been babbling about.

Order of events if GM wants a bailout:

First, convince government that the vehicle is green and can be a game-changer to auto emissions and efficiency.

Government will base their regulations on technology like the Volt.

Once GM has the government hooked, wait until the last possible moment, and then say, "we can't make these changes in our current state", and beg government for a bailout.

Government will sense that E-Flex is too beneficial to our environment, economy, and national security to allow to be broken up and sold off- so they will bail GM out and cover all the expenses required for GM to meet the new standards.
