So seeing that there have been a few wrecked volts I was looking on ebay and noticed quite a few parts starting to pop up which had me thinking. If anyone buying a base volt or a 2011/2012 without Mylink might be able to purchase a used complete center console in the future? I would assume that piece is what contains all the parts/stereo/hard drive etc and its simply plug and play with any volt.
Would provide a cheaper upgrade path for folks that didnt get Nav or MyLink when its released.
thoughts?

thoughts? Not as easy as you might think.
Besides the theft deterrant routines a lot of the system software configurations hinge on the VIN and are not "push button" selectable with respect to any changes in such equipment. The level of integration for every system level component means you cant just swap out these types of components and expect them to work- they wont.
Not saying it's impossible but it would obviously require some level of cooperation from GM Techline. For anything other than warranty repairs, software "modifications" such as this are charged directly to the dealer when requested and these charges then passed on to the owner. In other vehicles where such changes we attempted the costs involved might make it prohibitive.
