Sorry kids, looks like you have to move to Michigan or LA to get one. Oh yeah, he throws doubt on 2010 for production too. I'm guessing no raise for this guy like Wags got.
"We're not going to sell it in every city and we're not going to sell it though every Chevrolet dealership," Burns said (Vice President of R&D and Planning). "It just doesn't make sense to do that yet. You'd have to set up the service parts in all of those dealerships and train all of those dealers to service the vehicles. We might concentrate it in five or ten cities and say that is where we want to start."
catbert 03-26-2008, 05:00 PM Well, that's a way of making a non player of the Volt. Much like GMs last electric debacle.
blakec 03-26-2008, 08:52 PM Article got pulled.
Statik 03-27-2008, 12:27 PM Update:

mark4090 03-27-2008, 02:40 PM Even if you live in one of those states, what are the odds of ever getting your hands on one? Probably, not good.

john meschede 03-28-2008, 12:45 PM You could always stake out a dealership when the new Volts arrive, follow one home to its new owner and "permanently borrow it".(bring your own plates and fake toyota insignias for your car for a police free ride back to your home state) :) John M.
pennor1 03-28-2008, 04:37 PM So just what's supposed to prevent me from flying down to LA or SF and buying one. Then drive it home to Oregon and use it?
Jim I 03-29-2008, 01:09 AM OK, so you get it home, and it develops a problem. Who is going to fix it for you?
That is my problem with this whole "limited release area" idea.
So if I live in LA and buy a Volt, and then want to drive it to Denver, what am I to do if I need service while on the road?????
The entire plan is ridiculous.....

I think they mean Washington state, not DC. All they said in the article was that Washington would be picked for political reasons and everyone assumed that it was DC. But, we have some key players in Washington state that might be what he was referring to.
Congressman Jay Inslee (Washington's first congressional district) is keeping busy. After co-authoring Apollo's Fire, a book about U.S. climate and energy policy, and getting an amendment in the energy bill to create a plug-in demonstration project, he's now fighting to get tax credits of up to $3000-4000 for plug-in hybrids.
jscott1000 04-02-2008, 02:18 PM I don't think anything can prevent you from flying in from wherever and buying a Volt.

The limited release is only where they are going to be sold.
redndahead 04-03-2008, 05:20 PM Me being in line first that's what's going to stop you.:)
jerryn 04-09-2008, 01:27 PM I'm an engineer. In between my 18 year old talent's and mine, we can service an electric ourselves.

Jim I 04-09-2008, 03:07 PM I wish I could tell you how many computer systems I have had to repair, where the owners said the same thing......
Lets not forget that we are talking about some serious volts/amps cabling and some very high tech electronics tied into those systems.
Without complete documentation, diagnostic equipment, and training, I sure would not go poking around in those systems blind!
And where exactly do you think you are going to get parts, should GM restrict them to "GM authorized" dealarships only?????
mikeh1 08-16-2011, 01:15 AM You can always trace the dealership when the new V arrives, follow the house to its new owner, and "permanently borrowed".
