The problem with the Promotional dance/song is that the song is a breathy, emo style hipster ditty a la' Kimya Dawson, while the dancing is full-on, heavy-beat hip-hop.

In other words, the dancers are bumping and thumping hard, as though riding a heavy beat. But what we actually hear is the thready voices of little girls twittering practically acapella. It's as though somebody took the old Andy Griffith theme song, whistling and all, and choreographed break-dancing to it. This is a fundamental disconnect which combines the worst aspects of amatuerishness, incompetence and cultural tone-deafness.

Good move GM, way to once again present yourselves as completely clue-less ancient white-guy dinosaurs.

Here's my opinion and I know I'm going to be hated for it.

I find the dance corny and silly, as well, but it was not meant to be spread outside the context of the auto show.

You, the creator of the YouTube channel, named it "GMVolt" and used the official Volt logo (for which you might get very well sued if this goes horribly wrong).

You created a domain name using the official name of the product - "gm-volt.com" for which you can get sued as well if they can prove your activity is counterproductive to their marketing strategy (just check Microsoft's history in this matter). You posted that link in the description of that video, making it appear like an official GM advertising release.

People don't hate the song necessarily. They hate the alleged marketing move, because most of them believe it's part of GM's media marketing campaign trying to attract attention on the Internet, when, in fact, it was a single-moment-single-location event. People believe GM's advertising strategy went wrong with that video, when, in fact, it does not belong to them in the first place.

What you should have done, in my opinion, is post clear information that the video does not belong to GM, and your YouTube channel and your website have nothing in common with GM's official website or any other sort of public releases.

Now the issue has been amplified by the fact that important automotive websites have posted this as part of GM's marketing strategy, which is definitely not true.
