GM will be smart to plan their roll-out, given the relatively small number of vehicles.

Look at Toyota.. they had the Prius 0 in Japan for three years, and the Prius 1 internationally for the next three years, and no one knew about them. Well... almost no one. There only making 30,000 or so a year. I bought my 2003 Prius off the lot, in April of 2003.. they had a couple in stock, I didn't have to wait, or shop around, the even had my color (Electric Green).

With the 2004 model, and a bunch of celebrity involvement (planned or unplanned, I don't know), in only a few months the Prius became the most sought-after car in the country, complete with 18 month waiting lists and all kinds of good press.

GM would be foolish NOT to tap this kind of free publicity, or at the very least, do their best. I will be due to replace the Prius in 2011 or so (it's only at 115,000 miles, barely middle aged, but my daughter has designs on it.. she turns 17 in 2011), so I'm very interested in the Volt. But that also makes me interested in New-GM's long term health.. they can't flub this one.

by the time the government sink up to 100 billion taxpayer dollars into GM. the government should subsidize the volt when it hits the showroom for about $20000 or less. as we have already paid the other half in tax .will GM ever start making money, it looks like not

In addition to my previous post, no one has come up with a solution to the stale fuel issue when the gas goes bad from lack of use in the fuel tank, or injectors in the engine gumms up from fuel sitting on the injectors plungers... nor what you are going to do at 60k miles when the generator needs repair or goes out... what mechanic in the little towns across america will be able to work on them? Hey bob the mechanic, got any generator brushes for a 2010 chevy volt?
People only seem to think about the present and never about what the car will be like 4 to 5 years out... I'll wait for the nuclear powered model....lol

I think the numbers are way off... for one, i signed up when the volt concept car was proposed. It looked a whole lot different on the planning board... That car looked cool and I would have been tempted to make the jump at 20k, however since swiching to the Prius bubble butt looking car, I asked to be removed.. however i don't think they did nor did the e-mails stop. There is no way I 'll pay 40k for this car... that is a lot of gas $$ i can put into my paid off silverado... once GM (goverment motors) pulls their head out of their rectum and gives us a car that doesn't look like a Japanese left over... I may be interested.. Until then, GM has lost another loyal customer...
