DOT taxes will be assessed on all electric vehicles, one way or another we will all pay taxes to maintain the roads and bridges. Keep in mind DOT taxes go into the general fund and go to pay for favors to special interests in the form of earmarks. Your cost to drive will always go up so long as the government continues this reckless tax and spend, then tax and spend some more corruption. Wait until you have to mount a GPS tracker in your car, and then get the bill for your mileage. Where does electricity come from? There will never be enough windmills and solar panels to produce the amount of energy needed to satisfy demand for the additional electricity needed.

This is more of the same. I would expect that GM would have learned by now that the days of misleading the American Consumer are over. They obviously have not. The only number that matters is the total mile per dollar based on a sampling of historical prices.
Here is what needs to be calculated. 1- gas cost, 2- electric btu cost, 3 - intitial differential between the chevy volt and the chevy gas, 4- the maintenance cost of replacing the battery pack.

So, it all boils down to expected EPA window stickers of around 100 mpge or higher, CAFE ratings of mid 200s or higher MPG, and at vehicle 100% electric drive all electric energy use EPA window sticker of about 25 kWh / 100 miles (yep, it's a common, accepted metric, where lower kWh / 100 miles use means more efficient) on a reasonable vehicle cycle, such as LA-4, at least for BEVs. We'll see if EREVs ultimately end up in the ballpark on their pending metrics.

See, that's not so hard for consumers. What they can easily see is that anything with 100% electric drive always stomps a full gasser in efficiency, not to mention 100% electric drive's superior off the line high performance launches and luxury quiet.
