All Hail the U.S.S.A.!!!

Why is it that the government is allowed to "pick the winners"? GM is a poorly run company. Not profitable. Without BILLIONS of dollars being funneled from legitimate needs to bailing out a poorly run, non-profitable company... they would be losers. But the gov't waves the magic wand, and POOF! GM are the winners of the car market, without that troubling need to actually be the best company...

Why aren't all American car companies that are making electric cars getting 1 Billion, rather than just one company (who isn't even making a true electric car) getting ALL of the money?

This bailout is wrong, the mfg needs to go into chapter 11, thus enable them to redo the union contracts. The jobs do NOT belong to the workers, it belongs to the business. Because the business created the job, the worker didn’t. Also the union have outlived its purpose. Unions is for protecting the workers from abuse, not running the business.

Pushing the Volt, is stupid, the public will not buy it, with exception. The range is too small, price is too high. So now, gov’t will push worthless cars upon the public that no one will buy. Why should I buy a car at 40,000 when I can buy the same kind of car for 20,000 with a lot more power? Most of my driving is highway and way over 40 miles a day. And there is no plug in to charge the battery at the destination. So what the point in getting it?

Just curious about the "requirement" Wages that are competitive with those of transplant auto manufacturers by 12/31/09. Does this include CEO/ CFO etc compensation & what are wages? Perks & bone us's have traditionally been considered not part of wages. I would think if UAW workers are taking wages& benefits comparable to transplants then GM etc all should do so across the board for all staff exempt or otherwise not just those on the assembly line.

from Tom Harwick@226

Joe Says:
December 19th, 2008 at 7:03 pm

Facts and fictions about the UAW. Most on this site think badly about the UAW so here’s the truth from an unbiased source.

http://money.cnn.com/2008/12/19/autos/auto_bailout_labor_issues/index.htm?postversion=2008121914
===================================================
All the schlock reporter did was reprint UAW spin as a news article. None of the “facts” were sourced. They were simply asserted by the writer.

The correct figure of $73/hr (wages, benefits, retiree benefits) is readily available, and sourced in a reviewable academic paper.

**********************************************************************

From Joe,

Speaking of spin, that's just what your doing w/o anything to substantiate it. I quess no matter what is presented to some people, they'll never believe you!
