I could design a better car. They sold us out. SHort and simple. If I were Honda I would sue them. But they may have worked out a royalty scheme it would seem. This company GM works for SATAN!

I think everyone is missing the point somewhat. Who cares what it looks like and battery technology is still developing, so don't criticize GM for its efforts. I have considered purchasing the Tesla but this Silicon Valley company hasn't performed the testing equal to GM standards which are necessary for my family (I may still buy it for myself). I live in CA and am installing enough solar panels to 1) significantly reduce my residential electic bill and 2) charge two Volts vehicles EVERY DAY OF THE YEAR. We can take the kids to school and shop for necessities without exceeding the 40 mile/charge or day limit. Using solar power to charge the Volt is 100% free (remember the solar panel costs) and 100% green. I may buy less than five tank fulls (5 * 14 gal * $5 = $350) all year primarily for extended trips. This compares to two car tank fulls every two weeks = 52 tank fulls (52 * 18 gal * $5 = $4,680). Now that is "GREEN" ENERGY INDEPENDENCE.

So how is the Chevy Volt better than the EV1? The EV1 could go 70miles per charge.Where this car can go 40 miles per charge. The engineer of the EV1's charging system said he can design the car where it can get up to 300 miles per charge. The EV1 also could go from 0-60 in 3 seconds. And the EV1 was developed by GM too. I'm thinking there is some sort of secret oil deal between GM and other auto makers have with the big oil companies. The deal? Slowly move America away from gasoline engines or some other deal that the public can't imagine. Most of Americans who are Green conscience know about the EV1. I think GM just need to go ahead and make a totally electric car. America is at a crossroad;either stay with gasoline cars and destroy America's economy;or go with TOTAL ELECTRIC cars and save America's economy and save the world's eco system. The 41,000 that signed up need to demand GM to back to it's technology of it's EV1 and improve on it and put it into it's electric cars. ENOUGH! The Oil Age should have ended 12 years ago, The Chevy Volt is an insult for those who know GM can do 1000 times better.

It should not be called the volt. Call it anything else....call it the colt.

Make the volt when after they are sure it will sell.

This car still 2 years away and time will reveal that it will be more hype than substance. IMHO GM has made a huge mistake generating all this buzz for this car. If it flops it will be much more devastating to their image had they kept the concept and this project more low key. As it stands, they have so far over promised and under delivered in the looks department. I hope for their sake, they price it to compete with the current hybrid offerings. If it is indeed priced at $40k or more, it will be a massive failure. At that price point, the car makes absolutely no economic sense other than making a "statement" since the looks certainly do not command that price. So if you have $40k+tax+finance to make a statement, then you probably have more money than brains....If that describes you, then go all out and get a Tesla now. At least you will look good making your statement and can do so TODAY.

Wow, these production photos are not the real Volt are they? Tell me it ain't so! How sad. I just found this site and never got my name on the list (and won't be either). Some say that concept cars rarely make it to production looking like they do and I have to agree, but consider this. Usually concept cars are not advertised and flashed around on tv commercials as the "future" car like the Volt has been. Usually concept cars are seen at shows as what they are, concept cars. But GM took it further and flashed it all over tv and led us to believe that this is what it would really look like when it came to market. It sure worked on me. I was really attracted to the Volt that I seen on tv and really thought about getting one when they arrived. Now, what is this other "Volt" that everyone is seeing? Surely this is NOT the Volt I have been waiting on. What happened to the Volt that I was seeing on tv that was going to be in showrooms in 2010? Sorry, but the Volt that I'm seeing now does nothing to inspire me to spend $40k. For those that state that looks doesn't matter, well, we'll see. To me it does matter. Why do you think they make cars different to begin with? Doesn't have anything to do with ego. If looks didn't matter, then let's just put a plain box out there with headlights, one color, that gets 70 or 100mpg and see who all buys it. There would probably be a few, but it would be just a few. Either way GM, I feel, has done a dis-service by blasting the original Volt all over tv screens and hyping it up as what it will look like and get everyone hooked on it just to throw this "other" plain jane at us. Well, they lost a sale with me on this one if this is what the Volt will really look like. Guess I'll just look elsewhere. One thing is for sure, I won't let GM mislead me again.

I really like the Volt in black. Once a full side view is available you will see that the lines are very well thought out and look good. And, as I have mentioned before, I'm glad the clear side shoulder shields are gone. And am looking forward to the 0-60 zip of electric drive (161 HP) and the low CG handling. Can you say smooth?

Thanks Lyle for all your good work here. You are more of an American hero than both presidential candidates combined.

Lets see the Pontiac "volt" or the Saturn "volt" or the Buick "volt" etc. I would really like to see a "rebadge" of this car.
