I don't think the charge port location is any more a deal breaker than where the gasoline fill is on a car. Mine is usually on the driver's side but it's never been a decision factor in a car purchase.

I can see some logic to a front location, but it's not critical. One port should be standard, maybe two could be an extra cost option. Safety feature for preventing "still plugged- in" accidents is probably worth considering.

JeffJetskis
I suspect that the production Volt will not start if it's plugged in. At least I HOPE that'll be the case.
Be well,

I would recommend only one plug on the drivers side: a. more cost effrective b. some might forget it's plugged in on the passengers side and drive off plugged in that might damage the car, if you have to walk by it to get in the drivers door that lessens the chance of forgetting!

Less weight, always less weight.. it should be a mantra. Big deal you use an extension cord or back into your garage. You can always tape it down, buy those little plastic ramps, or just leave it on the floor of your garage.

One port in the front, not the side. Especially when parked in a public area, and want charge the vehicle, (just like the block heaters).
The side mounted plug area WILL get bumped and/or snapped off due to careless people who park beside your GM Volt. These are the same people who put dents in your current vehicle's doors...
