BTW, who knows... Maybe Tesla Motors will show the rest of the world that it is not necessarily to invest mega-funds (like GM's billions) to start up a successful car company. That it all depends on the team and the willpower.

Oh common, stop whining. You, Americans are so used to such low car prices that we, Europeans can only dream about. But your salaries are the same as here if not even higher. Sure, 100k is a lot for a car, but 60k or 40k is a very reasonable price for a medium class car. Just change your shopping habits and think of your car as a major investment in your family not just something you buy occasionally.

Someone here said GM are "car guys". So ask the car guys why they killed the EV1? GM has a history of making bad decisions and not understanding market forces. Before I bought my first Datsun I was a Cutlass guy. I would buy them new and after 30-40K miles they would start to fall apart with radiator leaks, water pump leaks, ball joint failures etc. Then I bought the Datsun eventually traded it for a Nissan Maxima after 150,000 miles and no problems. I wonder if GM can build a quality and reliable car today? I hope so for their sake.

It doesn't seem right that the guy who started the company gets pushed out because he made made mistakes in an area in which he wasn't an expert ... business. They should have handled it in some other way and done the "right" thing.

The US is ready to switch to EV or Hybrid tech that is affordable for the masses. I cannot even dream about a Tesla at their price. The Volt has promise, if they get the price down the volume of sales will go through the roof. I hope they are working on more "practical" cars for the deepest impact on the US car market. Others from offshore are coming with some very competitive products. I hope that the US can be first, instead of beaten to the punch. I would gladly sell both of my cars to purchase a "zero emissions" vehicle, and I know that I am not alone.
