No worries. I am a second generation homebuilder. My brother and I have seen worse downturns than this (1986-1990), and we are actually in the process of doing what you are recommending. You are pretty savvy about my industry.

Not to worry they said the same thing about the camaro low production , when they started selling all they were making they started incresing the production. I dont think they realize but electric is they way of the future. We wont need gasoline to run our cars , they can keep their high priced oil and you know what they can do with it.Opec put a rope around their neck and now they are starting to pull on it until they choke and dye. They need to start looking into producing Batteries to stay in bussiness.LOL.....
By they way we do have and unlimited supply of oil still untapped. They just dont want to tell us so they can drive the price up , but its going to backfire on them.

Personally i am in favor of giving gm a break considering that yes this technology is a break through , But might i add that the volt will exceed the mandatory fuel requirement anyway . So whats the deal? The only thing i can possibly think off is that they raise the bar for a car such as the volt because if its classification . But even in that case i would give them a break of 5 years or so , so that everything can get worked out . then we will truly see it take off and much like the secound generation iphone they will sell so fast that nobody will be able to keep up . I also would give them the break simply because they are a domestic automaker and almost all the proceeds would circulate in the us economy . Unlike the pruis ( which is still a good car ) , foreign auto makers honda and toyota who make money, is really getting invested in our domestic market nor are jobs are being given to our workers either. Its really nice to see an ALLL american auto maker taking a risk and when in doubht will come and rise to the top. By the way im buying gm stocks now while there cheap ! I think that in the coming 10 years or so gms stock will more than double

You make a good point. I want jobs made here and to keep our money here. I am not opposed to his plan to replace natural gas used to generate electricity with wind power. But, it is not the fuel for cars and trucks. Lets go strictly electric where possible. Free coal usage with solar as we can and still go electric where possible. But, your point is well taken.

GM needs to triple that out put. They should be putting out 200k in the first year. Not 5.
In the meantime I will continue to burn vegoil in my VW TDI. Even with the projected mileage of the volt, this is still a more affordable option that uses less fossil fuels for people like me who drive long distances.

I appreciate your vote, lol

"Thanks for the investment info…I build homes for a living so I am stuck in the real estate market…"

Wow. I don't really know what to say. Thats a tough market your in now...hopefully you got some benefit out of the really exceptional years we've had.

I do alot of work for new homebuilders actually. I find the ones with money, the ones that have done well in the past and have prepared for this day, have scaled back quite a bit, shrinking their business, building less...but trying to hold the margins.

If you do have cash lying around, only thing I could suggest is what I see strong builders up here doing. They are using the opportunity to buy land from other builders/developers/land owners who are 'distressed' at more than reasonable prices.

As you know in the building trade, "they aren't making anymore land" While the housing market has turned into a dog, it has opened the door to once again purchase the land under those houses...and to quote another quip, "the money is made on the land"

The housing market (like the economy in general) is circular as you know. It could get really bad in the near future, thats true...but it always won't be. Fortunes are made on the backs of the hardest hit in times like this. Hope it works out in the long run for you.
