Grizzly, I still think that it's a Walmart photo with one of those pull down scenes. Probably saving money for the batteries.

Bamboo for decorative motif? Did you notice that they're not only less than parallel, they're also not uniform in width? They're either bamboo or Chinese made jail cell bars. ;)

Hi, Folks
Just wondering. It is 35below and the volt has been plugged in all night so it is fully charged but the batteries are cold soaked. So you start driving, how do you get heat and things like that. How much less will the batts put out?
Not trying to be negitive about this, just curious.

Arch, I agree that the currently bad state of GM is due almost entirely to their short sited management, not their technical staff. But I think the management from the 70's, 80's, and 90's is primarily to blame for most of GM's worst decisions. As far as I can tell, the management team in this decade has been doing pretty well.

GM's product line now seems to match (in price and quality) that of Toyota/Honda almost model for model. The major missing piece is the Prius equivalent, since GM has nothing in the ultra-high-mileage hybrid space. And in that space, GM has been busting their butts the last 18 months to develop the Volt.

So although I agree that GM's management is the cause of their troubles, I don't believe the *current* management is mainly to blame. They seem to be doing a pretty good job, but unfortunately it takes a long time to correct 30 years of damage. And one of the slowest/hardest tasks is winning back the public's confidence.

Nasaman #207. They look like White Birch trees or Aspen trees. Not steel bars. But what trees are doing inside is beyond me.

<b>Lyle (.....or ANYONE!)......... I'm not usually given to posting trifling or frivolous stuff here, but I'm going NUTS wondering what those ugly, rusty vertical steel bars behind Bob Lutz in the photo introducing this topic are protecting him from??????? ;)

Tag #205 I suspect you're right. Like Rashid I'm waiting for stuff to get cheaper. It will be nice if they expand production.

I had a couple of electricians upgrade my service to handle a heat pump and provide room for possible solar expansion. I showed them the Nanosolar link. Turns out they were both "green" certified through a local program called Focus on Energy. They were well aware of Nanosolar, and some other stuff, like Germany's home solar program. Basically, what they were taught is that Germany largely went solar because their economy was in the dumps. So the goverment invested in it and put people to work. Not to get political, but I hope this is part of what Obama means by "green jobs."

Anyway, the irony here is that we are coming up with the ideas (Nanosolar in Cali, Biodiesel from poultry parts in MO), but the only ones using what we are creating are the Euros. "We got the tools, we got the talent." (Ghostbusters.) So when is it going to be Miller time?

MarkinWI #202
I saw that too (I'm on their mailing list), but given their history of only working on very large projects and the demand for cheap solar, I doubt they'll really open their product to us on that schedule (2009).
