I keep hearing that GM is still trying to figure out which market areas to target for their initial vehicle sales. Wouldn't this information already be obvious using the list started by this website?

I'd also like to see this list be utilized to offer folks first dibs on buying the vehicle! I know that I'm ready to put down a deposit.

Lyle! We are keeping a close eye on this Volt issue and we are very attuned to many years of GM organization! We are of the old GM family from back after WWII.

Of Course! you got 10,000 people signed up to get a Volt. Probably 9,000 of them probably don't believe that GM (Chevy) will get such a vehicle on the road, ever! I guess we will just have to wait for NEW BATTERY TECHNOLOGY. Or maybe we can just wait until we all can just fly by ourselves.

Me and mine are prepared to buy at the right price as quoted providing, it is as good as proposed in the engineering designs.

Let's go Chevrolet or is that word, to old?

Would General Motors consider developing a waiting list of people for the Chevy Volt? It could be a plan like this:

(1) General Motors would agree to sell the Volt at a stated price, for example, $40,000, minus the deduction stated in # 2.

(2) People who would now voluntarily sign up to buy the Volt would pay that price immediately, but discounted with a deduction of 10% for each year that they had to wait for delivery. The deduction would be $4,000 each for two years, creating a $32,000 cost for each customer.

(3) General Motors would agree to refund the $32,00,or most of it, to be determined, if it were to fail to produce the Volt.

I hope that General Motors, Chrysler, and Ford can survive these difficult times.

Waiting list? I don't want to sign-up to a waiting list for the VOLT.

I WANT TO FINANCE A PURCHASE OF A VOLT NOW!

Here is what GM needs to do:

1. Outfit a current concept VOLT in every GM Dealer showroom across the US. -GM needs to move more traffic into their showrooms ASAP and contiue to build 'buzz' on this vehicle. While customers will not be able to test drive the vehicle yet, they could at least see it, sit inside, view console and features, learn more about it etc.

2. Set a price for the VOLT ($30,000?) Customers who purchase in advance get an attractive (10%?) special discount, which ends before the official VOLT launch date.

3. Offer a pre-payment finance option for the VOLT, which allows customers to make monthly payments now, accepting delivery of vehicle at future date ie. late 2010 or early 2011. Getting a couple years head start on the payments allows customers to pay it off soon after delivery. Imagine buying a VOLT on a 36mo finance and having it paid off a year after delivery? -Getting cash commitment in hand upfront now also helps GM. Its a win-win.

4. Advertising campaign notifying potential customers of ability to view VOLT in GM Dealer showrooms and finance advance purchases with 10% special discount.

A little more creativity goes a long way....

Add me to the list! Also, if you could put a bug in GM's ear, tell them to build a high-mileage four-cylinder small pickup so folks like me can haul things without buying a monstrous gas guzzler.

What a load of crap. The new Chevy Volt "once driven 40 miles" will fail to deliver gas mileage as promised, in fact, its much worse. The GM designers failed again, After 40 miles a generator will be required to power the vehicle until the car is parked at an outlet for several hours. The generator does not produce enough energy to give any charge to the battery whatsoever. Adding insult to injury the mileage drops to a that of a subcompact. The car body design was fagged up because engineers could not get the mileage with the design on concept car. Yeah, and i'm going to pay how much? For what? I don't think so, Shame on you GM. You Suck!

Just found out that once the battery is drained and the engine kicks in, it will not charge the battery. The only way the battery can be charged is from a wall outlet.

"GM clarifies the role of the Volt's 1.4-liter engine, and the fact that it cannot be used to return the car to "electric-only" drive mode.

Once the Volt's 40-mile battery charge is depleted, the car must be plugged in before electric-only mode can be used. "

This really sucks! Gotta get myself out of the waiting list.

I'm on the list with money in hand. There is a poem By Rudyard Kipling, Titled "If". Maybe "if" GM had followed through with the next evolution, born out of the EV1 development, we would be driving the Volt now, saving lots of money, they would be making lots of money ( isn't that what business is about?), and the exodus of money and jobs off shore, would slow markedly. Wow what a thought.
