We have a winner from our first round of bumper stickers (see post).
Now we have several more to choose from that our readers submitted. Thanks for your efforts! Vote for your favorite. The winner of this round will go against the winner of the first round to decide on the final design.
There are 11 to choose from in round two - check them out and vote here: (LINK)
And yes, we will be offering them as sticker magnets.

I would suggest a sticker with the following:
The inconvenient truth:
160hp, 50mpg, 40 miles electric.
Chevy Volt

I think sticker #1 says it all. The hostility of the other stickers is just a bit to much for me,IMHO. I know, bumper stickers tend to be overstated.

I still like the “Next Car, No Gas” slogan.

Great idea Lyle; hope it catches on.

BY the way, I don’t recall exactly what I paid for my magnet, but it was under $10 with shipping and the guys at need-a-sticker did a great job.

“Continental Automotive to Begin Series Production of Li-Ion Packs in 2008″
The “interview” link in the article goes to a website article that appears to be in German. Any German readers that can read it and let us all know if there is additional information?

LyleL - My German is a bit rusty, but this article (dated 12/30/07) clearly quotes the company head, Manfred Wennemer, as follows: “According to optimistic estimations there is a market potential (for our LiIon batteries) of a BILLION EURO per year through 2013. The pessimistic estimate is half that. An exact projection is difficult, since for European car manufacturers this technology is considered embryonic. He adds that they are development partners of VOLKSWAGEN and DAIMLER and that in the coming year they will equip the Mercedes S-class with a hybrid battery.”
Let’s all join the “E-REVOLUTION”!!!

Tried babelfish translator. Babelfish tried, but some of it is a bit cryptic.
Wennemer rejected a comment, which manufacturer will use the battery. It admits is however that general of engine in the summer Continental had assigned to develop lithium ion batteries for that electrical drive system “e-Flex” which was to be used among other things Chevrolet and with OPELS. However also GM spoke always of a series start at the beginning of coming decade. Compared with conventional nickel metal hybrid batteries lithium ion batteries permit a higher power density and thus range.
What does the line “However also GM spoke…” mean?
I’m so excited… hope it’s GM that starts throwing battery packs in prototype Volts. Time for a driveway program like the hydrogen sequel only substitute the Volt!
Were do I sign?

Here’s my weak translation:
CEO Manfred Wennemer talks with auto motor und sport. “We will in the coming year beging the mass production of lithium-ion batteries. It won’t be a hundred thousand units a year, but surely a few thousand. With a safe technology it is robust enough for automotive use.” The battery is very powerful and has been given the most difficult crash tests. “We have done crash tests using even nails. We’re the first supplier worldwide. We are part of the Association of the Automotive Industry project, and the German technology will bring it forward.”
Who supplies the Continentals battery?
So far, announced serial production of lithium-ion batteries will be at the earliest start of the next decade. Car manufacturers, such as Toyota, see the risk that these batteries in vehicles could overheat and eventually explode. The Japanese manufacturer will use new lithium-ion batteries for its third-generation hybrid instead of the current nickel metal hydride batteries.
Continental CEO Wennemer stressed that the field is wide: “This is the battery of the future - for both full - and Mild, as well as plug-in hybrid propulsion and pure electric cars.”
Wennemer declined to comment which manufacturers use the battery. It’s known, however, that General Motors this summer contracted Continental to develop lithium-ion batteries for the electric propulsion system “E-Flex” for Opel and Chevrolet. But GM also always spoke of start of mass production early next decade. Compared to conventional nickel-metal hybrid batteries, lithium-ion batteries allow a higher energy density and thus higher range.
How many hybrid sales could Wennemer quantify: “According to optimistic estimates, there is a potential market of one billion euros per year until 2013. A more pessimistic assessment is only half that. An accurate count is difficult, as European manufacturers initially believe this technology is useful only as supplementary, rather than standard equipment offered. we are development partners of VW and Daimler. And in coming years the Mercedes S-class will have hybrid engine equipment.”

PS: In the article above, Continental’s Wennemer also said, “…this summer Continental was selected to develop lithium ion batteries for the electrical drive system “E-Flex”, which is to be used among others by CHEVROLET and OPEL.”

However also GM spoke always of a series start at the beginning of coming decade.
A better translation would probably something like:
On top of that, GM was continously talking about the start of series production, the coming decade.
Allerdings auch, should not be translated to literal, I think.

Any chance you will make more then just one?? I would be very interested in multiple stickers and I’m guessing there are a few that feel the same way.

The AP published an interview with Bob Lutz on December 31, 2007 discussing some of the changes in automotive design philosophy presently happening within General Motors. http://www.woodtv.com/Global/story.asp?S=7561326
