GM-Volt Bumper Sticker Contest

In an effort to raise the public awareness about the Chevy Volt and the efforts of this site and our community, we have started a bumper sticker campaign.

Just imagine it, you are chugging along in your clunker, making it last until November 2010 when your Volt arrives. What better a way to announce your intentions to the world than by slapping on a sticker.

Also, the more people out there that learn about the Volt and decide to buy it, the better it is for all of us.

Below are two finalists for bumper sticker designs. Vote for your favorite. If you happen to be a graphic or commercial artist or expert slogan maker, feel more than free to submit your own design to us at CHEYVVOLT AT GMAIL DOT COM. If your own original sticker design gets chosen you will receive a $50 gift certificate to Amazon.com.

One thought. Besides stickers you can’t peel off your car, I have a magnet which I love which says “Biodiesel No War Required.” I think it’s made by these guys, but I remember it came from Canada…hm:

I am a passionate GM fan. However, I am worried about GM’s future.

GM consistently has better technology available, better designers, and overall better resources. However, they are consistently content with making sub-par cars and ignoring the public. The 2008 Chevy Malibu is a fantastic example of GM’s ability to use its global platforms to deliver an excellent product. However, where was this car 2 or 3 years ago? It appears to have arrived only after GM realized they were in trouble. Why should we buy cars from a company that doesn’t try to do its best just because it can, not because it is forced into doing so by competition?

We hear about GM’s ground breaking new fuel cell technology. However, this is just another substitute for gasoline. While the point is raised, that any household could produce their own hydrogen, it is far more likely that the same people supplying us with overprice and environmentally damaging oil will also produce our supply of hydrogen. It is time for GM, Ford, and Chrysler to get out of bed with the petroleum industry and start producing cars that liberate us from wealthy oppression. I have a strong feeling that this car will only arrive on the market after companies such as Tesla spend their money proving that the market exists and GM feels their market and control slipping.

Why not support Tesla or one of the many other electric car producers? Americans are so in love with their companies. We choose to believe a company such as GM even after it continually lies to us. What about the EV1? There was no market? I’m sorry, but are we really that ignorant? GM and the oil companies were mortified by the success of this vehicle and others. So mortified that they crushed the majority. I’m sorry, not crushed, shredded! Then they purchased the battery company and sold it to an oil company! We should be horrified!

I’m not sure I will purchase another GM car. My first three have all been GM and it honestly saddens me greatly to purchase a foreign car. However, I will not be purchasing another GM vehicle until GM proves to me that they are committed to all of their stakeholders. GM can do this by producing the Chevy Volt in the next two years. The technology exists, the market is starved, and the stakes are higher than ever before. GM: Show your commitment to your passionate fans!

Actually, that’s the best time to buy – when a company is forced to compete. I’ve always thought that true competition is a win-win. When companies compete, they make better products, so people buy more. Everybody wins.

I’ve been buying foreign made cars for the last 10-years or so, but now that GM seems to be getting serious with the Volt, they have my attention…

    Dave,

I refuse to believe that GM cannot consistently create a quality vehicle. I completely agree with your purchasing philosophy. Competition forces companies to create the best product that they can. But where is old fashioned American pride? We used to be proud of the products we produced. I just want our companies, such as GM, to find this pride once again. Do your best because you owe that to your stakeholders, not just your stockholders. I am tired of the new American attitude of just doing what is absolutely necessary. Remember, I am a GM fan, but I think GM is capable of more and will need to be a mile ahead of Honda and Toyota if they are to return to their former glory. As of current news, the Volt will not be released until after other companies have plowed the path.

dave g. 21 & 22. i would think that if you know the use of commas, you would also know the meaning of the word “made”.
but, obviously you do not know the meaning of the word, as per webster’s.
example; my mom “made” great pies for christmas. she bought the ingredients from the store (china’s batteries for gm), but she “made” the pie in her home (the u.s.a. for the volt), so it was mom’s home made pies, not the store’s where she bought the ingredients. lmao, i stand by my quote.

dave b. 23, but more to the point lyle. my apologies to lyle, i did not realize that it is lyle who is putting up the money, but rather thought it was gm.

gm should actually be giving away a thousand bucks for this little venture, as it will benefit them multiple times over.

they (gm) should also offer at Least a hundred bucks in gift certificates to anyone who pulls into a gm dealer with one of these stickers, and buys a volt.
the actual advertising for gm and the volt has got to be worth thousands upon thousands…

Your description doesn’t sound very advanced at all. Computers (microprocessors, embedded controllers) in cars are nothing new. If you compare a new gadget-filled Mercedes with an EV1, I imagine the difference in complexity is night-and-day. The Mercedes has radar-based “intelligent” cruise control, a million sensors and pumps to adjust the suspension and activate the ABS depending on yaw and steering angle, even some arguably useless systems to adjust brake response and seat angles when it detects an impending collision.

Of course, any good engineer will shy away from this level of complexity. One of the benefits of the Volt’s serial hybrid design is LESS complexity.

    Richard H., #12 & #18:

I have to agree with you.

We have been sort of looking at Aveos and Cobalts to try to get to a smaller car to bridge over the 3 years (+?) to the Volt. Yesterday I had the sad experience of seeing the January issue of Consumer Reports. They report owner satisfaction with current cars, and how likely they are to purchase another.

Prius #1 with 92% loyalty. Corvette in the top 10 with 88%. Cobalt and Aveo in the bottom 10 with 45% + or -. Plus, as I commented last week, the mileage is really poor. Thus, I have to share your concern about the future viability of GM in the mass marketplace.

As Rashiid and others have said to often, they had better get the Volt right, or it’s game over for sure.

Absolutely right on the simplicity front.

Magnets or stickers are great but it’s hard to get a good look at something that’s doing 70 MPH. Can we expand the design to T-shirts? This gives enough room to show the official site and this site for optimal up to date info. It also gives those of us who are willing to talk up projects like this the opportunity to do so. Again, hard to do in traffic. Identify a person/face with the support, not just a car.

As for the “made in America” debate that’s raging on this thread, we need to keep something in mind. WE are pushing gm to keep the Volt under $30,000. This is how our consuption culture is killing our service based economy. It’s not just about energy or oil, or terrorism. This could be about a revival of our economy, jobs, deficeits, and a begining of hope for our children’s future. I know this is a bit broad reaching for this thread but I’m not trying to preach. I’m dreaming of seeing the advetising campaign for this vehicle include the (validated) phrase “100% Made in the U.S.A.!!!” I would gladly pay extra for my volt if this could be accomplished. US jobs, US Families, US economy. US future.

Around the world in 40 days. Driving a Chevy Volt.

    No mas. No gas

Driving a Chevy Volt. Shocking behaviour.

cute ideas here but really, are all of you really going to wait until 2010 to get into an electric car when there are electric cars available today? We cashed in our BMW for a 100% electric ZENN and haven’t looked back. And before any of you start ragging on the great ZENN and other NEVs, you actually can drive these wonders and still Flexcar it when you want to go to the beach or whatever. But no, I still hear folks each day moan about the shortcomings of something like our ZENN in order to justify their addiction to the pump and their gasoline car. We’ve done 1300 miles as of yesterday for a total cost in electricity of $13. That’s 3 months of urban driving for the cost of a on-sale CD.

Wait for the Volt or anything else Detroit may get around to offering in 2010 or 2015 for the Polar Bears and thousands of other animal species have all the time in the world. As do we.

Or you could get a ZENN today, end 95% of your dependance upon foreign oil (the 5% for the Flexcar) and actually do something. That’s the problem with America today – we can talk but we really don’t have the guts to do the walk.

How about it America? Are we going to be first rate today or second rate until 2010??

GM’s vehicle designers are years behind European and Asian car designers. GM as not made any real advancements or technical advancements sense the late seventy’s. My advice to GM is get off your cans and get on the ball in creating not just a hale marry…(GM Volt). Not just another look-alike hybrid vehicle using designs of other makers, but a combination of green powers, solar, electric, battery powered, Fuel cell plus utilizing futuristic recyclable materials. Open up new markets, creating new jobs and new industry for Americans in our country. Time has come for general motors step into the modern age, ahead of the world car industry. Show the oil companies and our country we have the can do knowledge and the backbone to become the world leader of the green powered vehicle movement. I have been waiting for General Motor’s for to many years. A small businessman can make and all electric vehicle in his garage, that plugs-into you’re home outlet by utilize classic and antique vehicles. Why can’t General Motors create an all new vehicle for us?…”What is good for General Motors is good for America”.
