the last comment i see posted is 2008; any further news on this topic? any way to find out if production will be soon? has any company licensed the development? up to date information would certainly be helpful.

Hey GM- don't crush this lot, or you'll never get that bailout loan. Better come prepared with this info when you fly back to apply to DC. Maybe you better ride your bikes this time, huh? You should have kept the tooling for the EV-1 and you could have bailed yourself out, you idiots!

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned his claim that the production is 'scalable.' A factory that's 3x3 miles is around 251 million square feet.

Cool! Apparently, they're still at it. Looks like they've been looking for improvements in the CATHODE and have found some:

Best of luck to them and I hope they take a lesson from Ovshinsky (re: Cobasys), if it's successful don't sell control of the technology or we won't see it in any meaningful way for about 2 decades.

Have read all of it. To sum up impressions: big hype as of now. This guy, Dr. Cui, has been quoted all over the net to have "a breakthrough". It is NOT REAL. Unfortunately. This is bad news. Kept me dreaming so nicely....

"James," best of all your sentences, I like this one: "I could say a lot more about the great potential of our group’s battery research just to point out how ridiculous your comments are." James, have you learned the difference between research and development? I'll answer that question: It's obvious you haven't. "Dr." Cui's team is supposed to be conducting development work. We're all waiting for that development to be shown ... at least a working breadboard unit, yet you're stating that "great potential research" is underway. That, and a dollar will get one a cup of coffee at Denny's.

Regarding Cui's clarity with the English language, I invite anyone to witness that You Tube lecture of his. Even with charts and graphs, he completely bungles whatever message he was trying to impart; and, it cannot all be attributed to his pidgin-English, as there is gross shortcoming in his organization and thought process.

Recently, I discovered that the Saudis have provided funds for Cui's "efforts." The Saudis are smart oil magnates, who have much to lose were some whiz-bang battery to replace the need for petroleum. It's clear they see zero threat coming from Cui and his group of preening and kowtowing students. The Saudi motivation helping fund the project is to be seen as being engaged in the quest for alternative energy. It's strictly a public relations thing, and cheap at that.

James, is there any new, public domain information on this subject that you can point to? It's difficult for interested parties (siliconnanowireophiles?) like myself to wait for the current research/publishing cycle to finish. This is exciting stuff.

Charlie Chan, I am offended by your comments. I'm a Ph.D. student under Yi, and I can guarantee you that in NO way is our battery research fraudulent or misleading! You make fun of his accent, too. Have you ever talked to him? I've had hundreds of conversations with him, taken two classes from him, and I have never had problem #1 understanding him. I could say a lot more about the great potential of our group's battery research just to point out how ridiculous your comments are, but I want to respect the privacy and IP of our group. Just know that you are completely wrong in your claims, and for anybody who knows Yi on a personal level (like I do), you immediately lose our respect by making claims that are just so baffling that I'm just going to assume you can't possibly be talking about the same Yi Cui I work for.

Of further note: At one time, after WWII, America was fortunate enough to have had many German scientists come to America. They were foreigners like Chi, but they accomplished real things, and their lectures were clear, accurate and very inspirational. They projected an entirely different type from this Cui fellow. Their ideas were original, their research diligent and unrelenting, and their development of rocketry and MANY, MANY other other projects were quite remarkable. They produced. We all remeber Von Braun, Dornberger, Huzel, Maurer; Rudolf etc. We haven't had a sense of the dynamic immigrant scientist since that wonderful era.
