At the L.A. Auto Show last week, Bob Lutz announced a deal between GM and Walt Disney Productions. The entertainment company agreed to take ownership of 10 Chevy Equinox hydrogen fuel cell vehicles as part of the project driveway program. This will be an example of an experimental fleet.
Today, an article appeared suggesting there might be a new theme park in the Epcot Center featuring the Chevy Volt.
I don’t know the source of this comment, nor am I aware of any press releases. However, it would be an excellent idea. Over 10 million people pass through Disney’s Epcot Center each year, and a ride/show about the Volt will help to educate the public (not everyone reads this blog yet!) about the importance and value of plug-in electric vehicles. And, it should lead to greater sales.
BTW, Happy Thanksgiving!

Nothing like the bread and butter of American companies to jump on board with this idea… Given today’s economic outlook, we need this.

see, pete k., doug k., mark h., and possilby noel?
anyway, i’ve decided that the best way for me to enjoy this site, is to skip a*shole comments, and read actual productive posts.
therefore, consider yourself iggied (ignored and scrolled by) by me. maybe others will chose this option also.

I had a very interesting conversation with my brother in-law yesterday. He was talking about the volt and the tesla. What that lets me know is that the word is going out and people are starting to take notice. I just wish we did not have to wait till 2011, I think GM needs to move up the date. Gas @ $5 a gallon will kill all of us at the pump and store. I would like to see an eflex type small suv like the VUE, etc.

I feel the same way, but I think GM would move the date up if they could. Remember the engineers are nervous about the date in Nov. 2010. I would trust them before the date the Mr. Lutz gave. I want this car too, but GM started kind of late, so they have a late date.
We all need it now, but we all have to wait 3 more years from this month.

bill 8 and scott 10, my response to ug was not just his simpson’s electric car post, but was more to his bullsh*t posts in times past.
bill 8 only, hmmm, let me see is it my post about the massive salt battery that is powering a GE train, my posts about how the volt is quite superior to anything out there at the moment, my posts that the tesla is a great car-even if a bit expensive for most of us, my post about nanosolar making solar power so cheap that we will be able to drive the volt almost for free, maybe it’s my post about the harley golf carts that i heard ran on the same type of system from the 70s which shows us that this system is indeed workable, or maybe it was my wwll posts wherein i was explaining that the us rose up to kick the nazi’s as*es, and that we will now rise up and kick opec’s a*s? really bill, i’m not certain what you mean, but, i am certain of this, you are a troll, probably paid, and i will be watching your posts and then probably iggying them. lmao bill.
oh, btw bill, you now have the super power given to you by me to iggy (ignore and scroll by) my posts, lol.
mark h 9 and rashiid 11, if i remember correctly, gm, in a former post, stated that the volt will be out in 2010, with a 2011 year date. someone posted that they believe that the 2010 date was chosen to give gm room for error, but that they will probably release the volt much earlier than that. as they said, it is easier to use a far out date, and move it closer, than it is to set a close date, and then say oops, we need to move it out.
cheerio and pip pip.

If GM or Chevy actually does something at EPCOT I believe it can go a long way towards showing their seriousness.
I have visited EPCOT three times in as many months and have asked the GM staff at the Test Track ride about the volt. No one really knows spit about the Volt. It is time GM at the very least makes some printed literature at the very least available at Disney… a Demo car on display and some people who know about it would be better.
Get serious GM, I don’t want THIS car to fail.

@ David (13) – My trip to Epcot last month was even worse than that:
The two m*r*ns staffing the GM info booth were flat-out DENYING the existence of a plug in Saturn VUE (never happen, they claimed), and telling us that the Volt wouldn’t be out until 2012 at the earliest due to all of the battery problems, and all of this was supposedly from their Chevy managers! My impression was that they were getting paid to deny any future “rumors” and push me towards buying a current model – they certainly talked up the current VUE hybrid after basically telling me I was crazy thinking a PHEV VUE was coming…
So rather than a NEW ride, why not a retheming to the existing one, Test Track??? It would be a much cheaper start!

Oh, and I forgot the best part – Just for kicks, I gave them my email address to get more info on the current VUE hybrid, and have yet to get anything, almost a month later… Great service, GM! Guess there’s a reason I’m still driving a Toyota (Tacoma, not Prius).

@ little one(16) & Grizzly (17):
Gee, thanks for your wonderful words of wisdom, now go crawl back in your holes somewhere, okay?
little something: to recap for your tiny intellect, here goes: Point one – the existing staff is not well informed and giving out bad info, so fix what’s currently there before trying to add more. Point two – if a company is offer to send emailed info on a product, they should follow through on it, at least if they don’t want to pi$$ off potential customers like me.
Of course, what can I expect when a total loser like little brain there comes on here, and rather than having a useful conversation, throws out the 7th grade version of “you liar, I can’t hear you, nyah, nyah!” What part of my post do you think is bull? I’m not the first to post these kind of stories, and definitely won’t be the last, until GM staff at Epcot gets their facts straight… And don’t lie to everyone, troll-baiting is probably all you have to do between you shifts at McDonald’s, do why should I believe your “iggied” bit?
Lyle, you run a great site, with some of the best new info out there – but I think I’ll skip the comment sections until you add a password protected forum based commenting system with permanent IP banning…

btw, idiot, i run several successful businesses, that all make a sh*tload of money, no doubt that you are the one who works for minimum wage somewhere.
what do you have against mcd’s anyway, no skip it, i’m sure you’ve got some nasty story there too, lol.
you’re iggied jeffrey, lol, (ignored and scrolled by). however, i must ad a caveat here, i am on the email list for these rooms, and when i open the emails, the post jumps out more than the poster’s name, so i sometimes end up reading an iggied party’s post. so, while you are iggied, i do reserve the right to read any post/poster that i wish to at any time.
however, regarding your trolling posts, i will do my best to ignore them.
also, if i see your name, i may not read your post, but i will probably remind you that you are an idiot and that you are iggied. now get off the computer, You are on company time, LOL…ROTF, LMAO @ jeffrey!

Wow, there sure seem to be a lot of insecure, self absorbed morons here…
Isn’t the general rule on the net that those who brag about their success, money, etc. are generally schoolboys with nothing better to do with their time? And gee, I currently drive a Toyota, so I guess that makes me a Toyota person, huh, Captain Obvious? I also have a classic VW – any insight there for me? So please, do me a favor, and show me where you have a post that actually contributes to this community, and doesn’t bash everyone in the room who doesn’t agree exactly with you, and I’ll try to take you seriously.
Now please, two things: First, how do a grand total of two posts amount to “nothing less than constant harassment”? I come in here, try to add to a current thread, and get jumped by a bunch of juvenile idiots. And second, doesn’t your company time comment cut both ways? Oh, I forgot, forgive me, oh powerful business guy, you can troll and run big businesses all at the same time, right?
And can anyone tell me – don’t most rich and powerful business execs know how to capitalize their sentences?

jeffrey, sorry i didn’t have time to read your post, as you are iggied (ignored and scrolled by). but, i can’t help but see the last couple lines of your post. didn’t say i was rich, just said i make a lot of money, there is a difference, but i wouldn’t expect you to understand that.
secondly, i type with no caps since it is faster, and there is no need to use caps for quick notes.
i will do my best to totally ignore your posts, but, as i said, sometimes they show up in the email forwards, and i open and read them before i realize what moron they are from.
good bye jeffrey, hope you have better trolling elsewhere, lol…rotf lmao @ jeffrey, lol.
please do me a favor, and just iggy (ignore and scroll by) me in the future and save yourself a lot of time.

And why open anything at all? From what I can tell, you think EVERYONE ELSE here is a moron except yourself, so why bother? Really? But at least most of my office is ROTFLMAO at your wonderful juvenile posts, breaks up a busy work day!

law you’re opening yourself up for some trolling.

@ law 26:
That’s essentially the basis of my complaint, that the other idiot here missed – basically, my wife’s car is starting to die, and we’ll need to replace it in a few years. Saturn’s website is pretty worthless with regards to the CURRENT Saturn VUE green line hybrid, so I was trying to get more info on that model, not the future plug-in. When a display says “Want more info? Enter your email here and we’ll send it to you!”, I figured that I’d save myself a trip to the dealership and the associated headaches, and see what their supposed automated email system would yield… And in this case, it appears to be nothing.
And I don’t see how asking GM reps at an information booth in Epcot’s “Future World” ONE question about the Volt and ONE question about the Plug-in VUE is harassment – it’s more like their job! I’d understand completely (and I agree with your point here) if I had sent some random emails to an address I got off a contact page on some site somewhere, but that’s not the case here. And again, my original point to all this was why not use the existing system GM has in place already at Epcot, rather than creating something all new as Lyle had suggested? Keep the engineers busy on the Volt, not on some Disney ride/show!

You never know what’s going on with a companies email system. They may not have gotten it, or some crazy paranoid GM hater might be spamming them with 5 million hate emails and yours just got lost.
Like I said, I almost never get repsonses when I ask a company about a future product. I’m very interested in the saturn VUE plug in hybrid and I’ll wait until next year before I start asking quesitons about it then in 2010 I’ll be asking about the volt asking before than when we have a website like this is pointless.
(Quote)
November 29th, 2007 at 11:12 am
True that – although I’d love to see a bit more here on how the VUE development is going as well, since it’s related, in a way – I’ll take what I can get, though. Bottom line is I’d love to get my wife the plug-in VUE next year to replace her car, then get myself the Volt as my commuter car when it comes out, along with a solar panel array at home!
Thanks again for a coherent reply, unlike a few others here!

Now to get mack on subject:
All in all, I believe GM should at the very least include a display (along with a knowledge base of people on hand) for the Volt at their Test Track attraction in EPCOT.
Perhaps a new ride is overkill. Assuming a new attraction would cost $100 million then perhaps GM could give back $5,000 in rebates to buyers of the Volt. (Plus a free Volt for me).
