This is a great bill. But unfortunately, Mr. Dictator Oil Bush might veto it.

The Volt Sounds Great. Make me one as a mini-suv please!

And urge your congressman to fund development of battery technology. Maybe some government gauranteed loans to some worthy company that can get it done and ramp up production quickly while at the same time including a recycling program for all those dead batteries.

We spend so much on war, how about on something that really will benefit the U.S. and the rest of the world.

Peace.

Well, if I started this little digression, I would certainly apologize.

I am pretty used to being told to take a long walk off a short pier, so I can deal with that.

I have to agree with Lyle that the purpose of this blog is to encourage/pressure GM to go forward with this car and this technology. I guess that this just shows that there are sort of huge geopolitcal impacts from this that go far beyond each of us saving money on gas.

From reading these comments it seems to me that, even if we may disagree on some political issues, we have a strong common interest in supporting Lyle's goals, and in doing our bit to help make our country independent from foreign oil imports, and the risks thereof.

Good luck Lyle D. and my apologies for my mistake. And as an occasional endurance athlete (mainly tri's)I'd ask you to please not forget the number one goal of any endurance event: "Do not die."

I also believe in freedom of speech but also note that freedom of speech does not mean that you need to provide the forum for that expression. But if a political discussion is to be had ...

Islam has a long history and encompasses many belief sets. It must be noted that while Christian Europe was in the midst of the Dark Ages, anti-science, and the Church was routinely practicing torture, that Islamic culture was a relative beacon of scientific progress, intellectual freedom, ands tolerance. The religion is not intrinisically hateful any more than Christianity is. America is, Mark, not under threat "from another religion" ... if for no other reason than that America is not a religion. The thinking espoused by some here, such as the "We know there are sleeper cells in the USA. How do you know your Muslims friends aren’t part of it?" is the same sort of mentality that locked up Japanese Americans in in WW2.

Arab society definitely has problems. The biggest battle is between those elements that wish to become part of the modern world's community of communities, and those who are afraid of it and instead fight for insularity. The West is a prop in that battle. The majority have been taken advantage of by a despotic few who have not invested wisely in their human capital. I am fearful of what will happen as oil becomes irrelevant, as I believe it will as RxEVs and EVs take off. The whole region could erupt into an Iraqi type conflict as despotic regiemes supported by oil money run out of funds and the societies are ill prepared to engage in the modern world of ideas. Not so fearful that I do not look forward to American energy independence however.

Please note Lyle L. is not me Lyle Dennis, editor of the site.

I beleive in freedom of speech which is why I do not censor what is written here. People are passionate and feel comfortable on this site which is why some very hateful things can sometimes be written. Even the U.S. supreme court has upheld "hate speech" as being protected.

This site is about the Volt and the transformational automotive revolution it represents. I express no political views here, my mission is to promote this car and technology and to help keep GM make good on their word and realize how may of us are out here waiting for our Volts, to build a Volt community.

Everyone is welcome here regardless of political or religous affiliation. Please try to keep a friendly welcoming tone in our comments. Remember thousands of new people per day are reading these posts and comments and learning from what we have to say.

Thanks
Lyle J. Dennis, M.D.
btw Im about to go run the NYC marathon..so Ill see you later.
