We’ve posted about the Killacycle, which does 0 to 60 under 1 second, and uses A123 lithium-ion cells making it the fastest electric vehicle on the planet (see previous post).
Invertor Bill Dube was showing it off for reporters at the WIRED Nextfext, burning out, he got shot off, and he was well..almost killed (we hear he’s OK).

Sep 14th, 2007 (12:23 pm)That sux! Unfortunate proof of technology. It does show people that it’s easily too powerful. Good for A123 Systems.

Sep 14th, 2007 (1:19 pm)That is impressive with speed and power. But, get a professional driver. When your smart enough to creat that bike with A123 batteries, be smart enough to have a professional driver and a body suit and helmet. We need you around to keep making things as cool as that bike.
Sep 14th, 2007 (1:51 pm)Well, I don’t want to appear insensitive, but it looks like this ended up being a really positive:
– Tons of free advertising
– Shows obvious power of A123 batteries
– The batteries survive a direct hit. No smoke. No fire. Ultra safe cells.
– Bill Dube’ gets off with a few scrapes and some humiliation
– The bike needs relatively minor repair work
– Bill will be more careful next time
All good things!
Sep 14th, 2007 (9:14 pm)Glad Bill didn’t seriously hurt himself.
To focus on the positive, this video has already been picked up by youtube and viewed by about 20,000 people:

I predict that because of this accident, millions of people will soon learn about the incredible power and performance that electric vehicles are capable of.
Should help electric motive power become a technology that appeals to those who love green, those who love economy, and those who love power.
Sep 16th, 2007 (11:32 am)Does anyone have an update on Bill’s health? Are helmets not mandatory there?
Sep 16th, 2007 (6:37 pm)He’s fine. Check out his post-accident blog entry here: http://www.killacycle.com/
Also, is it wrong to laugh a little while watching this video? I hope not…
Sep 21st, 2007 (5:50 am)As long as it was nervous laughter (jk)…man that thing is a beast (the bike). He got lucky as that could\’ve ended very badly.
