Gun Owners Also Want Their Volt

August 15th, 2007 | Posted in: Public Opinion

Yesterday Autoblog rehashed a story originally posted on Autoobserver on August 13,which illustrates the wide scope of appeal the Volt has.  Author Michele Krebs found a thread on the gun enthusiasts site AR15.com (they had linked back to her post).  You can see the original thread here.  The Autoblog story has been Dugg to the front page.
The original AR15.com poster writes “I’m not a tree-huggin stump-humping global warming alarmist… but I like the prospect of charging a car overnight and getting all the range I practically need out of it without burning any gas, but having the ability to drive as far as I want to as long as I can put gas in it for the generator. Who wouldn’t?  “

The thread goes on to seem pretty positive although the Volt does get called “fugly”.

The point of this is that this car makes sense for this country to have, and whether you’re a tree-hugger or a deer-bagger it might just be right for you.

Hey, I was the poster at AR15.com that posted about the Volt. VERY interesting discussions ensue, since us gun owners -being right leaning – love our trucks. A lot of the guys over there support the idea, since we also realize having an efficient car for commuting has it’s value.

I can’t believe the autoblog article quoted me – “tree-huggin stump-humping global warming alarmist”!! HAHAHAHA

HAHA… nice, linked over on Digg.com! Sweet!

Now if, like someone said on the Autoblog discussion, I were getting paid by GM. C’mon GM, show me some love!

And I like that Lyle put a picture of an M1 Garand. I have one, and it’s a beautiful, as well as historic rifle.

I wonder how long it’ll take for E-flex to make its way into trucks? I also wonder how much of the performance car market it’ll eat up too when the Volt is introduced. I really like the Camaro that GM’s going to put out in ‘09 (I think that’s right). I’ve heard of the Volt being described as looking like a Camaro, but shorter and with a completely different powertrain. I think that’s true, and it seems like that it could affect the GM-oriented performance market like that. Thoughts?

I don’t know how practicel it is for trucks, at least for now. You would need a helluva big battery pack to get any kind of range, as well as a much bigger motor to satisfy the average truck buyer.

As far as technology goes, I’d say biodiesel is the better way to go when you are talking about trucks, maybe in conjunction with a mild hybrid system.

    Dear Lyle
It’s nice to see some agenda blenders out there. You do know that GM is a Union company; I hope. Honda is much more Right-Wing and Libertarian, though their trucks and minni muscle cars are kinda wimmpy.

I had found the post on Autoblog, but didn’t notice the link that Lyle posted to Autoobserver. The article I linked on AR15.com was one Michelle Krebs wrote. She also wrote the one Lyle linked in this article.

I went ahead and shot her an email, just to say that I’ll be keeping up with the Volt, and will spread the word! Several guys over there mentioned how they had never heard of it. Hopefully I spread the Volt a little bit more!

    Matt986,

Why do you have to qualify the post with the now popular quote “I’m not a tree-huggin stump-humping global warming alarmist…”?

God forbid a right-leaning gun owner cares about the environment.

I do suspect that if that qualification was not made, your post would have been followed by numerous irrational flames. I guess that answers my question.

Drastically reducing our dependence on oil is in this countries best interest and that opinion should be universal regardless of left/right leanings. :-)
