Is this silhouette the one of an Opel Astra, Opel Zafira , … ? Time will tell.

By 2010 50-state diesels from VW and Audi will be commonplace. And if on top of that, the Opel E-flex gets a diesel then there is simply no excuse for not offering a diesel range-extender on the Volt.

You are right, this site is all about the Volt. We want news as it happens, and we want to help PUSH the car’s development all along, because we all want it to happen.

Sometimes, it is hard to view the car in isolation though, let’s face it, the E-Flex paradigm is what it’s all about, that’s the revolution in automotive engineering. I think if GM Europe gets in on the act with a sister car to the Volt, then it’s worth us knowing and talking about. The more effort that goes into this field, the more likely and the sooner the Volt becomes reality.

Expect to see an E-flex vehicle with a completely different body style from the Volt at Frankfurt. It will also have a diesel range extender.

I did see a very brief report on that statement here:

I am awaiting some verification from GM, that report seems a little thin to me.
I also noted that GM Europe seems to be working exclusively with Compact Power, A123 wasn’t mentioned.

The news I’ve heard is that the debut of the Opel version will occur in September.
There was also an announcement by Forster, GM Europe head, that the launch date will be second half 2010. This is the FIRST time
a GM exec has specifically said that an E-Flex car will be on sale during 2010. Since the Opel would normally be the last version to appear, it seems as though the door is open for an early 2010 or late 09 launch of the Chevy VOLT and Saturn models. Let’s hope it moves up into 09.
