Reports began circulating yesterday indicating that GM plans to unveil a new “iteration” of the Volt at the Shanghai auto show on April 22. These reports seem a bit over the top mainly because there really is no working model of the Volt yet. Some possibilities are that the vehicle will have a different physical appearance, perhaps more mainstream, like the one in our previous post. Or maybe the concept will appear in a form with a hydrogen cell connected to the electric motor. Another scenario might be that a true engine along with actual battery packs may appear.
In any case, a palpable sense of suspense and persistent building of hype and momentum is clearly underway. We’d love to hear if anyone has any other knowledge or ideas about this.

I’m not interested in a hydrogen fuel cell. The primary emphesis must be an electrical storage system (battery) and an internal combustion engine that can burn regular, e85, diesel etc… The 40 mile electric with I.C.E backup can be done now. Let’s have no more distractions (slight of hand tricks) about hydrogen. If the Volt is displayed with a fuel cell, it will be a very clear sign they do not intend to deliver a practical car any time soon.
