Bush Views Plug-ins

February 23rd, 2007 | Posted in: PHEV, Politics

Today President Bush was given a view of plugin vehicles on the White House lawn. He spoke to Dave Vieau, CEO of A123 Systems and saw two vehicles. One was a plugin Prius outfitted with A123 systems’ conversion kit (that Toyota doesn’t support) and the other a new plugin truck made by Phoenix Motorcars. He also had a meeting with 10 scientific leaders in the field of alternative fuels, and expressed confidence that his plan to cut fuel consumption by 20% over the next decade is possible.

Unfortunately, the Volt didn’t make it to the White House today, maybe Bush would have sat in that one (he didn’t sit in the other 2 )

I have a good interview with David Vieau of A123Systems speaking about his company’s battery technology and it’s contract with GM for developing Li-I batteries for the Vue plug in hybrid and eventually the Volt. http://www.podtech.net/nextgear/technology/1665/a123systems-powers-battery-technology

Thanks-I love what you guys are doing, it’s great to read and participate. We just need more of us out there. I just did an interview today with Sherry Boshert who wrote Plug-In Hybrid…it’ll be posted in a week or so. A very enlightening discussion. Also, I did an interview ahwile back with the folks from Phoenix…if you want, you can listen to it here: http://www.podtech.net/nextgear/technology/1649/its-an-sut-not-an-suv

Bush assisted GM in crushing the EV1.

He and Cheney are involved financially with their interest in only promoting Hydrogen, instead of Battery EVs.

GM is delaying the Volt by waiting for the Li battery, instead of producing them now with Ni battery.

I’m surprised a small automaker hasn’t reverse-engineered the RAV-EV to produce new ones. There is Demand for it.
