GM to Begin Production of Sequel in 2010

General Motors is also simultaneously working on a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle called the Equinox, and its slated for production in 2010. Two working prototypes are alread in existence.

This vehicle will also have and E-drive (ie electric engine), but will be powered by hydrogen, not hydrocarbon as in the volt. Power will also be stored in Li-ion batteries.

This vehicle has a more conservative Equinox-appearance than the Volt. Of course well be waiting around for a while to get access to hydrogen fuel stations, and still waiting to find a greener way to make hydrogen, but stay tuned, these problems will be solved.

“The Sequel also uses lithium-ion batteries, regenerative braking and a third-gen GM fuel cell. Two running Sequels already exist, and GM will be building 100 fuel cell-powered Chevy Equinoxes for large scale trials of the technology this year.”

Do note GM has two sequels in existence now and will build 100 Equinoxes this year. Where’s the Volt? Same technology that drives the Sequel is in the Volt. The difference is the fuel cell that ties us to gas stations. Anyone seeing GM’s plan to keep us tied to oil companies? If it isn’t true then there should be 100 Volts built to test the new battery technologies now.

Suggestion to GM. Maybe make a Sequel model
vehicle based on E-Flex platform but with a
gas engine like the Volt. Still have the
fuel cell based vehicle but also based on
engine of today. Reason is that I like the
Volt sporty car design, but I would be great
to have plug-in vehicle more for a family and
the body design of Sequel fit more of family
needs then the Volt. Maybe not initially but
would hope soon after release of Volt.
