OK maybe its not so obvious. The point I was trying to make is that the concept system of an electric motor directly and independently turning the wheels, powered by a battery, with a third powerplant to charge the battery is the new paradigm. I agree that the source of power to that battery will evolve; from gas to bio-gas, to hydrogen.

Pretty obvious to you maybe. . . The buzz today is about plug-in hybrids (and ethanol is booming, don't forget!). The buzz yesterday was about hydrogen fuel cells and the "hydrogen economy". Before that it pure battery electric vehicles. What will the buzz be about tomorrow?

There are still a lot of horses in this race: ethanol, cellusoic ethanol, biodiesel, biodiesel from algae, pure battery-electric vehicles, and of course hydrogen is still being researched heavily.
