Its become pretty obvious that the GM Volts E-flex system is and will be the new paradigm for automotive propulsion. I say this because of all the propaganda buzz starting to flow from every other auto maker; Ford, DC, and now Mitsubishi.
The Japanese companies Mitsubishi and Sanyo have now announced their plans to have auto-ready Li-ion batteries for 2010 (the magic date).
The war is on! Lets go GM.

Jan 24th, 2007 (12:15 pm)Pretty obvious to you maybe. . . The buzz today is about plug-in hybrids (and ethanol is booming, don’t forget!). The buzz yesterday was about hydrogen fuel cells and the “hydrogen economy”. Before that it pure battery electric vehicles. What will the buzz be about tomorrow?
There are still a lot of horses in this race: ethanol, cellusoic ethanol, biodiesel, biodiesel from algae, pure battery-electric vehicles, and of course hydrogen is still being researched heavily.
Jan 24th, 2007 (1:11 pm)OK maybe its not so obvious. The point I was trying to make is that the concept system of an electric motor directly and independently turning the wheels, powered by a battery, with a third powerplant to charge the battery is the new paradigm. I agree that the source of power to that battery will evolve; from gas to bio-gas, to hydrogen.
